Privacy policy

Blooming Talents collects only what it needs to register children for its chess events and to run them. This policy says what that is, why, and who else sees it.
What we collect
- About each child: first and last name, date of birth (to place them in the right age group), whether you agree to photos of them being published and, if you give them, their chess rating with where it comes from, and their club or school.
- About you, the parent or guardian: your name, phone number, email address and home address, and a password for your account.
We collect children's details only from their parent or guardian. Your password is stored only in a scrambled (hashed) form that no one, including us, can read.
Why we collect it
- To register your children and place them in the right age group.
- To run the event, including matches and results.
- To contact you about the event, including on the day.
- To take payments, make refunds and keep the records we are required to keep.
We do not sell your information or use it for advertising.
Who else sees it
- Stripe processes payments. Your card details go straight to Stripe, so we never see your full card number. Stripe emails your receipt to the address you give us, and may process payment information outside Australia.
- Google: when you search for your address as you type, the text you have typed is sent through our systems to Google's address service to suggest matching Australian addresses. Nothing else goes to Google.
- Our registration platform's hosting providers, Fly.io (servers) and Supabase (database), store the information in Sydney, Australia, and use it only to run this service. Both are overseas companies whose systems may be administered from outside Australia.
Photos
We take photos at our events and share some on our social media. We only publish photos of a child whose parent or guardian has agreed, using the separate photo tick-box when registering. Agreeing is optional and does not affect your child's entry. You can change your answer in your account at any time; if a photo of your child is already published, email us and we will take it down.
How long we keep it
- If you start a registration but never go on to payment, it is deleted after 7 days.
- If your account never completes a payment, the account and everything in it are deleted after 30 days.
- Otherwise your registrations stay in your account's history, including any you started paying for but did not finish. We keep them, with our payment records, for as long as we need them for the event and to meet our legal and tax record-keeping obligations.
How we protect it
Information travels over encrypted connections and is stored in Sydney, and backups are encrypted. The site uses only the cookies it needs to keep you signed in and to protect its forms; it has no advertising or analytics cookies.
Your choices
You can see your registrations from your account, and update a child's chess rating and club or school there while registration is open. To correct a name or date of birth, get a copy of your information or ask us to delete it, email bloomingtalentz@gmail.com.
